ABOUT US

In 2006 PolyStandard Group was formed by Deb Brown to pick up the mission acceptance of the Maine Coon polydactyl for full Championship Status (this includes points, titles and ribbons) in the various Cat Associations around the World.  This was a year following acceptance of the Maine Coon polydactyl for showing as a New Trait in TICA.  This classification remains to this day and PolyStandard prepared for a poll of the Maine Coon Breed Section and ultimate approval by the Board of Directors to move the MC poly from New Traits to full championship status in 2014.  To date this has led to serious threat of the Maine Coon Polydactyl.  There is a narrative of this problem on our Maine page.  Today our group boasts over 97 members along with a Facebook Group following of over 250.

In late 2008 two poly breeders from New Zealand were successful in having The New Zealand Cat Fancy (NZCF) fully accept and welcome the Maine Coon poly into the Championship Ring.  Today they are the only WCC (World Cat Congress) member to fully accept the poly, although there are a couple of private clubs in Europe following the NZCF acceptance of the poly.  Some Cat Associations have relaxed their restrictions, and a couple have fought the trend and increased the historical prejudice and discrimination against the Maine Coon poly and their breeders...while most of the are rest in the middle, having never given serious consideration to the matter.

In September of 2009 twenty five members of PolyStandard submitted an Application to TICA for Advancement of a New Trait (polydactylism) to Championship Status.  This Application was polled by the members of the TICA Maine Coon Breed section in December of 2009 and rejected.  A copy of our Rationale or reasoning for acceptance in 2009 can be viewed by clicking HERE!
